Meet the Team

Nicole Kraake and Xylina Burns met in 1990 as freshmen at SDSU.  Pi Beta Phi sorority sisters and now business partners, Nicole and Xylina are eager to support student connectivity and academic success through creating their program, Mindfully Connected Learning. Together, they bring over two decades of classroom teaching experience, love for learning and teaching, and passion for mindfulness and connectivity to each pod and each child they serve.

Nicole Kraake

Founder, Nicole Kraake, has been a middle school, social studies teacher in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District for the last 24 years.

Her experience as a curriculum, technology, and mindfulness in education leader in the Palos Verdes community makes her uniquely qualified to support support your child. In addition to her 24 years of experience as a classroom teacher, Nicole has also been her site’s yearbook advisor for 20 years, is the current GATE coach for her site, and sits on a numerous educational committees including School Site Council and the current remote learning committees for school reopening for the 2020 school year.

Nicole has an MA in Educational Administration, completed a year-long Mindful Teacher Certification Program with Mindful Schools, and is finishing up a GATE certification with UC Irvine.

Xylina Burns

Co-founder, Xylina Burns, has been teaching elementary school in the Torrance Unified School District  for 23 years.  Her experience with her site’s Title 1 program has empowered her to have mastery in all levels of student support from intervention to GATE (Gifted and Talented Education).  Xylina earned an MA in Reading and Literacy which uniquely qualifies her to support student in all aspects of literacy.

Xylina has experience in grades 3-5 as a classroom teacher and is an educational leader.  She has assumed the role of GATE lead teacher, ELD lead teacher (English Language Development), School Site Council representative, and BTSA mentor (Beginning Teacher Support Assessment). Additionally, she implemented the Grades of Green and Mindfulness programs at her school site.
